INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM (July 18-23)
A one-week course led by Mark Schapiro from the Center for Investigative Reporting. Students will learn how to start and sustain an investigation, learn interviewing techniques, build a case, handle sources and adapt the story for different types of media.

FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT TRAINING COURSE (July 25 – August 2)
This popular nine-day course features practical training and advice from experienced foreign correspondents. Students will also research, write and file their own story from Prague – a real taste of international reporting.

PHOTOJOURNALISM (August 2-7)
A mixture of training and practical shooting sessions, students will learn new techniques and complete a photo essay under the guidance of two international photojournalists.

Abstract Chile Conference 2010

The Grant Writing Workshop presents Professional Grant Proposal Writing Workshop March 29-30, 2010 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Las Vegas, Nevada The Professional Grant Proposal Writing Workshop is a hands-on, intensive session that leads participants through the entire grant  proposal and funding research processes. Through an intense two day workshop, participants will receive an overview of program planning basics along with advanced writing techniques to develop your winning proposal. This results-based workshop allows each student to walk out with a thorough proposal outline, completed worksheets necessary for proposal submission, and a starting  collection of publications and resources to build your development library. This course is designed to provide your organization with the competitive advantage necessary in our modern grants award environment.

The Professional Grant Proposal Writing Workshop will cover the following during the two day workshop:

(1) Fundamentals of Program Planning

This session will teach professional program development essentials and program evaluation.  While most grantsmanship   “workshops” treat program development and evaluation as separate from the writing of a proposal, this class will teach students the relationship between overall  program planning and proposal writing.

(2) Strategic Funding Research

At its foundation, this session will address the basics of foundation, corporation, and government  grant research. However, this course will emphasize a strategic funding research approach that  encourages writers to see research not as something they do before they write a proposal, but as an  integrated part of the grant   seeking process. Students will be exposed to online and database research tools, as well as publications and directories that contain information about foundation,  corporation, and government grant opportunities. Focusing on funding sources and basic social science research, this course teaches students how to use research as part of a strategic grant  acquisition effort.

(3) Professional Proposal Writing

Designed to obtain tangible results, this session will make each student an overall proposal writing   specialist. In addition to teaching the basic components of a grant proposal, successful  approaches, and the do’s and don’ts of grant writing, this session is infused with expert principles that will lead to a mastery of the process. Strategy resides at the forefront of this session’s intent to illustrate grant writing as an integrated, multidimensional, and dynamic endeavor. Each student will learn to stop writing the grant and to start writing the story. Ultimately, this session will conclude with a completed proposal outline.

With the 2010 deadline fast approaching for alignment with the Bologna Process, the International Summer School in Cork, Ireland offers you the opportunity to acquire the strategies and tools required to enable the implementation of Bologna in your institution.

The Summer School will take place in University College Cork, Cork from 5 – 9 July 2010 and will feature an experienced range of presenters addressing topics focused on the Bologna action lines.
Ireland has been very successful in implementing the action lines of the Bologna Process, evidenced by the country’s position at the top of the Bologna Scorecard in 2007, and its second place in 2009. Ireland is also one of the few European countries that has successfully established and implemented a National Qualifications framework.

The key people involved in assisting the implementation of Bologna in Ireland such as Dr Declan Kennedy (author of international bestseller Writing and Using Learning Outcomes), Dr Norma Ryan (Irish Bologna expert), Professor Áine Hyland (member of EUA’s Institutional Evaluation Team) and Dr Jim Murray (CEO of National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) amongst others will share their experiences and advise you on the best strategies to facilitate effective implementation.

The International Summer School is targeted at policy makers, senior managers, lecturers and educational developers in Bologna countries and countries aligning with Bologna. Please note that it is hoped to provide accreditation in terms of ECTS credits for those who complete this course.

Im Rahmen der Expo 2010 in Shanghai, insbesondere beim Österreich-Tag am 21.5., dem Publikum Wien wie es (auch) jenseits der stereotypen Kulissen ist vorstellen und zugleich bei der Erwartung und beim Interesse dieser Zielgruppe (vor allem aus China und
dem Ostasiatischen Raum) anschließen: Wien als Kunst- und Kultur-Platz in Europa.

Wien jenseits der gängigen Klischees
Very Vienna: ein Wien-Magazin mit jungem Blick auf das kreative und kulturelle Wien jenseits der gängigen Images. Wien, wie es (auch) ist, wie man es aber im internationalen Kontext weniger kennt.

Wiener Lebensstil – hinter den Kulissen

In Kooperation mit dem Austria Office der WKO bei der Expo Shanghai wird am  Austria Center an der Fudan Univeristy eine temporäre und offene Redaktion eingerichtet, in deren Rahmen die Studierenden in ihrer jiournalistsichen Praxis unterstützt und durch Mag. Julain Müller betreut werden:  Informationen,  Hintergründe, Kontake, Verbindungen, Facilities, Betreuung.

Auf diese Weise können österreichische Medien zu Berichten und Reportagen kommen, für die sie nicht extra Korresopndenten anheuern oder einsetzten wollten – und auch zu solchen, die Themen, Personen und Ereignisse jenseits der Mainstream-Berichte schildern, lange bevor der eigentliche Event in Gang kommt. Der Österreich-Tag an der Expo 2010 ist am 21. Mai 2010.

Es wurde alle relevanten Medien in Österreich diese Projektidee per Schreiben vorgestellt. Erste Reaktionen darauf waen ehr positiv. Nun sollen im Laufe des März konkrete Kooperationen vereinabrt werden. Für die Mitarbeit an diesem Projekt wurden mittlerweile 10 Studierende aus den Instituten in Wien und Salzburg gewonnen. Diese werden ab Ende Februar  an der  Fudan University Schoolf of Journalism für ein Semester im Rahmen des MCM-Austauschprogramms studieren.
