Lecture I
How to Observe Communication ?:
Critical comments about the epistemology of communication science.
The lecture aims to understand the needs but also the philosophical quality of theoretical concepts on communication/media and tries to explain and to classify paradigms of societal agreements of understanding.
Lecture II:
What is Communication Like?
Models and metaphors explaining and structuring the understanding of communication.
The lecture discusses the need of thinking in models and tries to re-contextualize the models and metaphors with their cultural / philosophical / ideological environment. In that context the relation between every-day-theories and scientific theories also should be discussed.
Lecture III
What Means Construction of Reality?
The challenge of change in social theories through constructivism.
The lecture aims to describe the constructivist turn and its consequences in theorizing social communication and also shall give an analytical overview on constructivist approaches in systems- and culture-theoretical concepts of media communication.
Lecture IV:
Why Culture?
Culture as the new focus in social theories: The implications of Cultural Studies
The lecture shall explain critical theories and comment the bow from Frankfurt School to Cultural Studies and also shall reflect the relevance of the relationship of communication and social competence (media literacy) in building community and society.
